Retail giants expand Halloween costume options for individuals with special needs

It’s that time of year again – cooler weather, pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween – the Fall Season is upon us! This year, there is some good news from Target and Disney as they are introducing Halloween costumes that are more inclusive for adults and children with disabilities.
These new costumes come with special accessibility features such as open backs to make dressing easier, hidden openings for abdominal access and wheelchair-friendly styles. Although Target had initially launched some adaptive costumes last year, they have doubled the collection for 2020.
Julie Guggemos, Target’s Senior Vice President and Chief Design Officer told Disability Scoop, “Whether you’re simply getting dressed every day or dressing up for special moments like Halloween, everyone deserves to feel included and celebrated.”
Meanwhile, Disney has launched its first collection of adaptive role play offerings including fan favorites such as Cinderella, Incredibles and Buzz Lightyear.
These costumes can range from $20 - $39.99 with new additions being added every day. Please visit their websites for the most updated information.
