Help set a disability agenda for legislative action - #joinourfight

In a recent call to action, the Arc of Oklahoma is asking fellow Oklahomans to join the fight to make sure disability rights are at the forefront of the Oklahoma Legislature when they return for the 2021 session in February.

With another predicted state budget shortfall, critical programs for Oklahomans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) will be at stake. The ARC is asking disability rights advocates to speak up about these vital supports and services that should be preserved and not cut! Give your input here to help set a disability agenda for legislative action in 2021.

The ARC is also asking that you share your point of view with legislators as it is their job to represent you and they need to hear directly from their constituents on how programs and laws make a difference. What issues are important to you?

Sharing personal stories is also important to highlight an issue or program, according to the ARC, and they invite you to share yours here. Personal stories from Oklahomans like you highlight the importance of an issue, program or service in a person’s life. It is one of the most powerful tools we have as advocates. Your stories can change hearts and minds.

In a recent memo, the ARC of Oklahoma stated, “We look forward to working with advocates like you to ensure more than 60,000 Oklahomans with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live fully inclusive and productive lives in the community. Through your advocacy, the mission of The Arc of Oklahoma comes to life and demonstrates the importance of building a future that includes us all.”
